Kimmage Development Studies Centre (KDSC)

Originally established in 1974 by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (CSSps or Holy Ghost Fathers), Kimmage DSC specialises in facilitating education and training courses for development professionals - both full time and part time (see other links on this website to 'Courses' and 'Dtalk').  All full time courses run in Kimmage and one which is run on an outreach basis at MS-TCDC (see separate link in Courses) are accredited by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) http://www.hetac.ie.

Since February 2006, Kimmage DSC has been formally registered as an independent company (limited by guarantee not having a share capital) CRO No. 414814.  In keeping with its developmental and educational goals (see Mission Statement below) it also registered its Charitable status with the Revenue Commissioners, CHY 16985.

Kimmage DSC took this important step of becoming an independent legal entity with the support and encouragement of the Congregation (CSSps) whose continued collaboration is formalised through the Membership of the company of at least 7 of the Provincial Leadership Team.  The Members' role is to appoint a Board of Directors (currently 10 people) who are drawn from the NGO, Higher Education, Missionary and Business sectors (see also 'Personnel' link on this site for further details).  The Executive Director of Kimmage is responsible to the Board in terms of the ongoing operation and policy development of KDSC.

It is intended that this new legal status for Kimmage will enable the Centre to consolidate and further develop its activities and linkages with other like-minded organisations, particularly in terms of entering more effectively into public fora and strategic alliances with others in the development sector.

The Vision and Mission of Kimmage DSC

The vision of Kimmage DSC is a world of equality, respect and justice for all.

The mission of Kimmage DSC is to promote critical thinking and action for justice, equality and the eradication of poverty in the world. It aims to do this through facilitating the education and training of individual practitioners and groups working for social, economic and political change in society and so enabling all practitioners to work effectively for the holistic development of all.
